Aspinwall will be given the designation of 30. There are currently 3 routes that serves Aspinwall now, but that would change for the better. The routes are as follows:
- 30: Aspinwall Connector
- 301N: Freeport Rd
- 301S: Ellsworth
- E301: Butler St
- N301: Aspinwall
30: Aspinwall Connector
The 30: Aspinwall Connector will be a shuttle that would connect with UPMC-St Margaret’s and VA – Aspinwall to the Waterworks Mall. There will also be other stops on the way to these 2 medical centers, but the main role is to get patients to where they will need to go. A long time ago, the 91A: Butler Street used to service these two hospitals, but I would guess there was not enough demand. By using a shuttle, I will reduce cost of operations, and hopefully make this a viable route. The route will extend to serve RIDC Park, therefore providing service to that industrial part since the E301: Butler St will not serve it any more.
301N: Freeport Rd
The 301N: Freeport Rd serve much like the current 1: Freeport Road does, but will only connect between Waterworks Mall in Aspinwall to Harrison Township. This route as you might guess from the designation does not serve Downtown. The rationale for splitting the 1: Freeport Road into two routes is there isn’t much ridership north of Aspinwall. This will mean that the 301N: Freeport Rd will run hourly as for the frequency, whereas the N301: Aspinwall will run on a 30 minute schedule.
301S: Ellsworth
The 301S: Ellsworth will replace the 75: Ellsworth, and will operate the same way as the current route that the 301S: Ellsworth will replace. The 301S: Ellsworth will start at Waterworks Mall, and end up in the South Side at South Side Works. This is a longer route, but very popular with students since the 301S: Ellsworth will go through Oakland.
E301: Butler St
The E301: Butler St will replace the 91: Butler St in every aspect, but it would not serve RIDC park. The route will go through Strip District to enter Lawrenceville, and then remain on Butler Street until 62nd St Bridge which it would cross, and enter Sharpsburg. From there, it would connect with Aspinwall, and the Waterworks Mall to where it would terminate, and loop.
N301: Aspinwall
The N301: Aspinwall will be the portion of the 1: Freeport Road that would serve from Downtown to Waterworks Mall. Like the E301: Butler St, the N301: Aspinwall will terminate and loop in Waterworks Mall. One stop I will imagine will get more ridership will be the 31st Bridge stop. This will be where I will hope that the 3: Troy Hill Incline‘s lower station will be located at. This will be especially important for the weekend, and later weekday hours.
